The National Junior Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for middle level students. Chapters exist in more than 60% of the nation’s middle level schools and, since 1929 millions of students have been selected for membership. NJHS is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, which also sponsors National Honor Society at the high school level.
Potential members must meet high standards of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Members of the seventh and eighth grade classes are evaluated by members of the Faculty Council for membership yearly. Information regarding application and acceptance is available through the National Junior Honor Society advisor.
Seventh and Eighth grade students who have acquired a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher are eligible for consideration for NJHS membership. According to NJHS guidelines, a five member Faculty Council will then evaluate the student on the basis of character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Students will be placed on probation if their scholarship, behavior, or commitment to the NJHS guidelines decline.
Selection into the society is not a right, it is a privilege bestowed by the Faculty. Receiving an invitation and completing a student Activity Form does NOT mean that a student will be elected into membership. For information please consult the teacher advisor or visit the NJHS page on-line.
